I would just buy a big kiddie pool for him if you really want him to swim. When I think about being in a pool with a tegu I have the image of it panicking and trying to claw its way onto my head. :)
If you only feed turkey gizzards I would try and get some more variety in there, at least mix some dark greens (kale, collards, chard) in there for fiber if it's a recurring issue. Glad he's doing better!

I could understand using it for an emergency, I just think people should be careful...
My Gojira is OBSESSED with a box that has all the lizard supplies in it...well or almost any box that is full up stuff. He will pull himself up with his crazy strong forearms and dive headfirst into the box, sometimes managing to spiral his way down to the bottom. Sometimes I think I should get...
My only concern with 2x2's is when I got some for making my enclosure doors almost all of them were warped, it would cut down on the weight but the 2x4's are much sturdier.
The above sounds like good advice but IMO I would be careful about Mineral Oil, it is nasty stuff that comes from petroleum http://www.herballuxuries.com/about-mineral-oil.html . Also, how long has it been since your Tegu has had a full BM?
Thank you...I'm not really sure on his age, maybe 2 months? I found him at a pet store about 2 weeks ago, his previous owner did not take care of him, but he is warming up to me nicely.
Took some pictures of Ignitus outside, you can see his colors a lot better in the sunshine :)

Sounds cool, what type of Waterdragon do you plan on getting? I don't know much about them but they seem interesting and like a good warmup for a tegu. Also, looks like you have some nice customized enclosures. I like the foam backdrop technique...I may have to try that out.
The volume of an enclosure is not what is important, it's the dimensions. As everyone else has stated you need at least 6' long x 3' wide. I am currently building an 8' x 4' enclosure for my adult. Not to sound harsh but if you can't properly accommodate a Tegu's need for a large enclosure it is...
Welcome! That's good you are doing research ahead of time, I did a year of research before I got a Tegu and I am still learning 3 years later :) Tegu forums are an invaluable source of information in my opinion.
Very cute! I feel you on the tegu addiction, i have a b&w and just got a red, and im already thinking "now i just need a blue and an extreme and my collection will be complete!" lol, of course tegus are much more to me than a collectors item, but it would still be cool to have all the varieties...
