    New enclosure questions

The drylok will keep water out of pretty much everything. The Drylock isn't like paint. Its like paintable cement :) I did plexiglass on a drop down door (its bolted on with a piano hinge that runs the entire length of the bottom (door is 4'x18") I chose the plexiglass because it was easier...

    Building 8x4x3

I love it ;) you can always add a TV on top or something, maybe some bookshelves? Not real sure anything short of a secret wall in front of it is gonna keep the wife from noticing :)

    Tono's new enclosure.

Apparently my Tegu is a weird one. He loves his plants. He checks on them daily, but never tries to hurt them at all. Even his burrows avoid them almost completely. We added some wheat (cat grass) in there to give him something easy to destroy. He randomly walks over and sticks his nose in it...

    Tono's new enclosure.

Its DryLok. Its a super-duper sealant. Keeps the humidity nice and keeps the moisture out of the wood.

    Lighting timer and feeding question

20" Tegu in a 40 gallon? sounds to me like he needs a lot more room... he's probably bored snotless. Oh and Timer ... I picked this one up at Lowes for $17 : http://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-15-Amp-3-Outlet-Digital-Residential-Plug-in-Countdown-Lighting-Timer/50063929 It seems pretty...

    Substrate worries

We are using a bioactive substrate from https://www.genesisexotics.com/ which is a mixture of, among other things, topsoil and sand. Also, the bugs :) these are a good thing and keep you from daily having to muck out the enclosure ;) sounds like what you have is very similar, so you should be...

    Tono's new enclosure.

Got some live plants in there now. Benjimina Ficus and some sort of Monkey grass (it's lizard safe, I just don't remember the name ;) ) My wife also got him a "Happy Halloween" decoration that he seemed to enjoy rolling around... He hasn't been destructive towards the plants yet, but he was...

    Your light/heat set-up!

I use 2 of the 160w mercury vapors in my 4x3 enclosure. So far temps look good (I just need to elevate my basking spots a bit more). It's plenty of light and heat, and uvb :)

Almost done - vents, lights, heat

LOL I hear that, Im using a bioactive substrate, so mine will probably end up slightly greenish :)

Almost done - vents, lights, heat

mine are F... im betting there is a Celsius version though... and yes, self contained little things (run on watch batteries). about 1x2 inches. I just stick them to the wall at various points. Easy peasy :) Oh and they come in black and white... I guess the white would "blend" in better with...

Almost done - vents, lights, heat

I use these from Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/Happy-Pet-Thermometer-Electronic-Temperature/dp/B01E4WGCBA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475158716&sr=8-1&keywords=Happy+Pet+Super+Wireless+Mini+LCD+Display Cheap but reasonably accurate (head over to a cigar forum if you want a dissertation on how...

    Getting my new Tegu setup

I went with 1/4" Plexiglass. It just seemed easier/safer to work with to me... but Im pretty sure there is no functional difference, just what you prefer.

Almost done - vents, lights, heat

My understanding is that the vents are kind of both... I put 2 in the back of my enclosure and of course the light holes in the top. Seems to keep temp pretty well, although this is literally day 2 for me on the big, non aquarium style enclosure. Yours is about twice the size of mine though, and...

    Tono's new enclosure.

Happy, happy lizard. His old tank was 3 sq ft... which was fine when I got him. The new one is 12 sq ft. He usually goes to bed around 4:30, 5pm or so. Today? He was up till almost 8:30, doing laps in the enclosure, tongue going a million miles an hour :)
