He looks like one of mine does each year after hibernation. Mine comes out looking like he needed to shed about half way through hibernation and has just partial scales loose on his face like yours. looking back at my notes it happens every year. I usually give him baths and rub him down with...
of course Tegu's but monitors geckos I guess I am just looking for a show that has a good variety. I know the bigger shows out there are going to have more what I am after. We were looking at possibly heading to Chicago next year around the Tinley show but I heard this last one was majority...
So I've been curious lately and this seems like a good place to ask with everyone spread out around the country and majority of intrests in Lizards. I have been to most of the shows around the midwest and I am not at shows to buy a snake. It's cool seeing all the different snakes and I...
I think most on here would agree a MVB is the way go is will give you the UVA, UVB and heat all from one bulb, they are a little more expensive than a heat bulb but you will only need one bulb and fixture look online, you can find good prices. I keep a uvb florescent bulb on the cool side...
I have been in your situation as well too, I needed to remove mine from his old enclosure to move him into a new one and had to disturb him in his hide. two large enclosures is not reasonable in our living room and I needed to dismantle the old one. I didn't have time to wait him out as it was...
I don't believe the worms are going to hurt your colony. I had all kinds of little extra bugs in mine, you are creating a good place for other bugs to live with the temp, humidity and food. Males are not very hardy and die easily and don't live as long as the females. If you have to many...
I run a drug store ultra sonic humidifier setup connected to PVC pipes that run into the cages. I run it on a timer on high for a couple hours in the morning and then a couple hours in the evening. It keeps the air moist without soaking the substrate and humidity around 70%. It is so much...
mine ate day of right after I took her out to collect the eggs. She didn't eat a lot for the next 3 days only a couple bites. She demolished some mice yesterday ( 4 days after laying). Maybe try one of her favorites?
So, my tegu started to lay her first clutch this morning. She however decided to lay them in an incline of her nest... How long do those of you feel comfortable turning the eggs a little before the embryo attatches? And will I need to place them in the medium in the exact orientation I find...
I think our expextations of intelligence is a bit high. My ball is not a puzzle so does it really show intelligence? No, and I only use it to make him work for his food, just like a large mamal keeper will do. It shows persiverence... But in respect persiverence shows a level of intelligence...
That really was the whole point, just making them work for the food. He does recognise it but without making it a puzzle its hard to say if he knows the cause and effect really or if its just "hey food"

Here's a video that I think shows it, the ball has holes so the fruit falls out.
