I have had my tegu since February and have been told it's a male from the person I bought it from. I was told he was a yearling but could also use some comfromation on that. I have also notice he has been getting bigger joules since I got him/her.
Agreed, also since she is just a hatchling she may feel safer and protected around you try putting a worn T-shirt in her tank to seem as if you are with her. Best of luck!
Hello, I was wondering if my Tegu was reviving enough UVB and calcium to keep his bones healthy. I have a 100 W basking lamp that has UVB in it but not all that much (if that makes sence). I dust his food in Calcium and feed him raw eggs with every meal. I've had his since February and he seems...
I have no experience with hatch longs but this sounds great. I'm sure he's growing rapidly. Try mice, they are a little fattier and cheaper (where I'm at). Try to avoid live feeding, this will make your Tegu feel the need to be aggressive when eating. He may also mistake your hand as prey later...
Sounds tough. I recommend doing a "taming restart". Don't pick him up out of his tank for the first month or so if taming her. Just place your hand by her and move it closer slower and slower. Gentally touch her unlit she calms down. That's all you should do for now. Keep looking at taming...
I have had my tegu since around Feb 25. We seem to be bonding really quickly, this is what I've been doing. The first 1-3 weeks i didn't take him out of his enclosure. I would just reach my hand in there and place it by him until he stopped huffing and puffing. Then, I would put my hand on top...
Yes there is such thing as shed stink/smell. Also you will have to clean its tank pretty frequently.
That size of tank sounds great for a hatch ling to sub-adult, just make sure you can have proper lighting.
For a hatch ling I recommend feeding them a mostly insect based diet. I have a yearling...
I recently got my first Tegu (yay)! He is around 2 ft, and I don't know how old he is because he is adopted straight from the Everglades. Anyways, I have him in a ground meat diet. I usually give him 2 big meals a week consisting of ground turkey, banana, calcium powder, and and egg with the...
Now that it has stated to stay lighter longer I have stopped using UVB lights for my lizards. I've had the UVB light off for my beardie for about 2 weeks and he seems to be doing great. So I moved my Tegu over to the other window and haven't had any problems. These windows get plenty of sunlight...
