Yeah, I saw that. Here's what I got out of it:
1) Most cases of the "aggressive" tegus in yards were the result of tegus being attracted to dog or cat food left out for pets.
2) Said pet for whom food was originally intended (big outside dog) confronts tegu, man jumps in to break it up...
From all I have read, eggs are fine as an occasional food, just not a primary staple. Raw eggs aren't good often at all because the whites contain a substance that counteracts the metabolism of biotin, a B vitamin. This is partially offset by the fact that yolks are very high in biotin, but...
If at all...
I'm interested in the variations any of you have experienced in your tegus as they enter a shed. Changes in behavior, appetite, temperament, etc...since individual animals behave differently, what's the range you have experienced personally?
I've had monitors that never...
Wow, ilovelizards...informative post and I like hours you tied in your own experiences with success.
I have some modest experience with clicker training for small mammals and birds, and whistle training for birds of prey, but I've never worked with it with any reptile. Looks like it worked...
Any nonfertilizer, untreated topsoil would do, you just have to make sure it's plain old dirt, nothing else. You may want to sift it through some 1/4 or 1/2 inch cage screen, as I've heard of some strange things being found in topsoil. For sand, just plain untreated playground sand.

I haven't used eucalyptus, but I know folks who have and like it. Cypress seems to hold humidity well with almost no mold issues, and it's readily available in most of the southeastern US, so it has become my preference. I like Eco Earth for my arachnids because it has a fine consistency but...
Given that he has already experienced his share of stress today, my opinion is to get him back to his "normal" area and feed in the cage for tonight. Certainly won't hurt; as you may have noticed from recent posts some folks feed in the enclosure regularly, some from time to time, some rarely...
Strawberries are great! (Moderation, of course, as with most things). Being a little guy, he may not be quite so keen on the fruits yet, but some certainly are!
Well, it isn't like the cypress blend is likely to be immediately harmful, just definitely not optimal. It MAY contain cedar or other aromatics which would be bad news, but most likely it just contains some pine, which would be bad but a bit less so, if that makes sense. You'll just need to...
Oh...and as for your cypress mulch question...just make sure it doesn't say cypress mulch "blend" as that usually has other woods like pine and who knows what else. Also make sure it isn't dyed; a few brands are. If it looks unnaturally uniformly brick red, I'd surely avoid it. Strangely...
Before I respond, I want to clarify that my understanding is your cage was not inside during the "bombing", so a substrate change to avoid toxins shouldn't be necessary.
Further, most foggers and some fumigators use one of the various pyrethrins, which have high organophosphate toxicity when...
