    New rescue baby! Advice?

What!?!?! Who in their right mind gets a 12 year old a tegu?? People are nuts. At least she'll be in good hands now.

    New rescue baby! Advice?

You can try mixing the eggs into some ground turkey to get her started on some real protein, or coating a rat in them. I'm wondering how much effort they put into getting her on real food...

    New rescue baby! Advice?

I'm no expert, but I wanted to thank you for taking that poor baby in!! A 20 gal is insane, even for a hatchling :( Best advice I can give is get her temps and humidity spot on, and give her a good diet. I've had my girl (wasn't in the best shape) for a few months and she's become quite the chow...

    Enclosure doors

    eating habits

I think so... lol my girl took about a week to get her appetite back. No issues that I've noticed :)

New to the forum AND to tegus :-)

Welcome! That's kind of the same boat I'm in. Mostly snakes, with one frilled lizard and now my awesome tegu :) I'm sure you'll get the hang of it quickly! !

    New to Tegu's

I'm a new tegu owner, and I've learned TONS through this site and other research. My best advice is to read anything and everything you can get your hands on. That and, build your adult enclosure first. I'm working on getting mine together, and it's a lot of work! But I looove my girl, she's a...

How much to feed my future tegu?

Here's what I do, although my girl is by no means a hatching: I offer 2-3 golf ball sized helpings of protein (turkey, salmon, etc), 2-3 rats or ASF, about 1/4 cup each of berries and fresh veggies. I'll also dump crickets in her enclosure every week or so, and she has some dubia crawling around...

What have you offered so far?

    Tail question

Looks normal! My girl has about a 4-inch black segment at the end of hers, and it's wayyy stubby lol. But it gives her character :)

    No UVB

You can never do enough research! New information on captive husbandry practices come out on a daily basis, I'm constantly reading to make sure my care is up to date. I too thought ground turkey would be sufficient as a staple protein source when I first started my research. I still offer it...

    Bananas!

If I'm confident she's getting plenty of calcium, should bananas be of any concern? Molly gets 2-3 whole prey items per meal, either ASF or rats (depending on what I have ln hand), and everything else gets a generous helping of calcium powder. I definitely don't want to put her at risk for MBD...

    Bananas!

Fruits have a lot of sugar and are generally recommended in moderation to omnivorous and vegetarian animals. Too much fruit can lead to obesity and a host of other issues. Sugar is a rare commodity in nature, and many animal brains are programmed to reward acquisition of those sugary items...

    Enclosure doors

I had issues with scratching/fogging which was driving me nuts lol. Also, I kept breaking off screws inside my pre-drilled holes. I think if I'd had stronger screws, it may not have been so bad. But I was attaching hinges to a plexi tank, so I think I could manage doing the doors.
