PIJAC is preparing a Pet Alert

In simpler words, they'll make a decision (after arbitrary, expensive investigations and findings). Either deregulate turtles or ban sale of untold numbers of species. Savanna and nile monitors, colombian tegus and untold numbers of snakes are likely to be classified as a "salmonella risk" and...

PIJAC is preparing a Pet Alert

In case you missed the diamonds in the rough of the legalese, this act mandates "salmonella investigations" into every species of reptile, not just turtles. Again, note the arrogance of these people. It never occurs to them to simply tell parents to stop their children from eating dookies.

PIJAC is preparing a Pet Alert

To put the absurdity of the "four inch turtle anti-salmonella law" into perspective, it was passed to address a rise in salmonella rates in children. The most frequent method of contraction was as follows: 1. Vendor says "baby turtles make great pets for baby humans!" 2. Parent buys baby...

PIJAC is preparing a Pet Alert

That's utterly appalling. I'm making a short post almost all the words I can think of are four-letter ones. Standard practice, slipping this kind of (string of curse words) *cough* legislation in over a holiday. Forget the fact that almost all chicken processing companies fail to meet the...

    The numa numa song

Finally, a version that brings meaning to the whole numa-numa thing. (It makes alot more sense than the "official english translation"). "You be the man - who mashed the - feta cheese." Words to live by.

    Too much UV? photo-kerato-conjunctivitis

Stumbled across this link... <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm">http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm</a><!-- m --> Does anyone have experience with any of the new, cheap (under $500) UV spectrometers?

    Adenovirus

When I wrote the above, I hadn't actually read the article :? (new human killing adenovirus - yikes). I probably won't avoid reptiles as a result of reading this (beyond regular hygiene to protect my collection), but if I see a human sniffling, I'm gonna high-tail it.

    Adenovirus

I seem to recall reading about a case suspected to have jumped from bearded dragon to varanid, but I'm not sure if even that was proven. From my understanding, adenovirus infections in humans is relatively mild.

    Another Potato Chip For Brat!

Absolutely gorgeous baby. I stared at the pic (and its eyes) for a good long while. Its eyes look *huge*, even for a baby. (hard to say for sure from picture)

Snake bursts after gobbling gator(not for the squeamish)

Pessimistic, well, yeah, maybe a little ;) Condescending? Sorry if I came across that way. I'm just a little leery about news reporters and stories. They always seem to frame articles to say "Oooo! Reptiles are scaaary! Look at the monster pets! Go go Godzilla!" I dunno, maybe the article...

Snake bursts after gobbling gator(not for the squeamish)

After seeing (and reading) this a second time, I find it even harder to believe it happened naturally. - Exploded stomach? the python's midsection doesn't appear nearly distended enough to cause it to burst from internal pressure. - Swallowed alive? pythons very rarely do this. I'm sure...

green tree python or a green vine snake?

Husbandry with the green vine snake might prove more tricky, and most sources recommend much larger space requirements than a GTP. Handling might be tough, force feeding (if needed) damn near impossible. Still they're just so damn *unique*, almost alien in appearance. Don't get me wrong, I love...
