In case you missed the diamonds in the rough of the legalese, this act mandates "salmonella investigations" into every species of reptile, not just turtles.
Again, note the arrogance of these people. It never occurs to them to simply tell parents to stop their children from eating dookies.
To put the absurdity of the "four inch turtle anti-salmonella law" into perspective, it was passed to address a rise in salmonella rates in children. The most frequent method of contraction was as follows:

Does anyone have experience with any of the new, cheap (under $500) UV spectrometers?
When I wrote the above, I hadn't actually read the article :? (new human killing adenovirus - yikes). I probably won't avoid reptiles as a result of reading this (beyond regular hygiene to protect my collection), but if I see a human sniffling, I'm gonna high-tail it.
I seem to recall reading about a case suspected to have jumped from bearded dragon to varanid, but I'm not sure if even that was proven. From my understanding, adenovirus infections in humans is relatively mild.

After seeing (and reading) this a second time, I find it even harder to believe it happened naturally.
- Exploded stomach? the python's midsection doesn't appear nearly distended enough to cause it to burst from internal pressure.
- Swallowed alive? pythons very rarely do this. I'm sure...
