I thought I've read on here that greek yogurt mixed with mashed raspberries were good for acting as a laxative when light compaction is happening. So I'd personally just not give to much when it's not needed once you get the powder. I shake pinkie sized/shaped chunks of extra lean organic ground...
Wow that's interesting compared to mine. He will avoid at all costs being set in his water bin in his enclosure, though he'll take a dip or drink from it at his own leisure, never stays in it for long. He stopped dropping fecal solids in his enclosure, and doesn't mind being set in the large tub...
Starting to lose the green! He's now to big to put all 4 feet on one hand, shed 3 times. Very active and curious and enjoys back rubs and crawling on hands/arms.
I've had mine for a couple months now, lost most of his green color, shed 3 times, seems to enjoy back rubs. Will generally arch his back into them, then lay back down, eyes either closed/open depending on his mood. I chock it up to his day to day or hour to hour mood usually. How much uv/heat...
Had mine for a one to one and half months, been feeding giant and super mealworms, waxworms (though not often cause I can't keep the fridge warm enough for them), lean ground turkey, chicken liver/gizzards, beef liver, scrambled eggs, sliced up grapes. I generally give him 2 types of food per...
Have had mine for about a month or so. When I first got him he was quite skittish, would avoid being near any hands unless they sat for a while and even then would run to his hiding place if it moved. Now a month+ and two sheds later he's much more calm and will actively come check out my hand...
Thanks for all the opinions. I've been reading them as they came. Is there a specific forum for doing like weekly/monthly updates on how your tegu is doing? He's never made another attempt to bite, though when he is hungry and it's near feeding time, he'll approach my hand more readily.
Today...
Well as in my welcome thread I mentioned my tegu came towards me around the time food was given. I avoided giving him food when he could see me put the plate in the enclosure for a few days. Recently he showed interest when I placed my hand near him.
Rather than the fast quick bite he gives...
Annnnd apparently my fresh out of the shower hair freaks him the **** out! He was having none of that while I was cooing and talking to him, and randomly spazzed and ran for the hole. Now he's all watcful like I'm going to come get him when he least expects it.
Thanks for the tips. I'll have to refer back to this thread. Just got home from work, looks like the only area with shed left, are a single toe on each hind leg. Just sliced up a red grape for him, calcium, and some mealworms. Going to have to see what else Petsmart has for them and refer back...
My tegu is shedding for the first time since I bought him a couple weeks ago. First shed to go was the last half of the tail. Now it's 3 days after and just today the upper half is mostly shed but hanging on, half the front underbody is pulling off, and most of the head, and all of the front...
He ended up eating plenty easy without issue. To avoid the taking out of cage thing, I put a small plate with his meal while he was basking. In a few minutes he was curious or smelled/spotted it and finished everything, then went straight back to basking. My ex wanted to handle him (Says out of...
Tried to take him out so he could explore the room a bit. He gave no care to being picked up and carried out of his enclosure and set on my bed. But any attempt to pick him up was met with squirmy resistance. Finally got him to walk onto my hand but he was jumpy at this point and when I...
Thanks for the substrate advice. Which types of soils are people liking? The small amount I read about them was worry over any grittyness and the smaller particles. One person stated that sand can build up in the gut rather than get pushed through making compaction a "Will happen" rather than...
