building my new argentine tegu the best tegu cage ever

I would discourage anyone from making a "pond" in their indoor enclosure, though a large water dish is essential... Many Tegus, mine included, often poop in their water. Being able to easily remove, clean replace the water dish is important. Even the highest quality filtration will not stand up...

    odd?

There is a subspecies of toads in my area that are "strangely" orange... But it doesn't surprise locals because anyone who has lived here for more than 15 minutes knows the dirt here is orange... Our dirt is orange because of the minerals it contains. Therefore everything in this region...

Severus UV time in the pool....

I have a 6' round 300 gal rubbermaid tub (horse troft)... which isn't much more than a really thick medium sized kiddie pool... When my guy was a baby I would put that Tub on a gentle slope in my back yard... then I would put a bit of water in it. This would create half land and half water...

    Basic ball python setup

I completely disagree that BPs should not be kept in large enclosure. Africa is a pretty large enclosure and it houses more than all of us hobbyists combined... It is very true that they like tight areas, so simply put a lot of stuff in yoru large (65 gal) enclosure and they'll be fine. The...

    New tegu need answers

So either a 32 sq ft cage or a 4.5 sq ft cage... that's a pretty wide range in options... :P A 40 gal breeder is big enough for a 3~6 wk old hatchling, but he will outgrow it in about a month, therefore in my opinion a 40 gal breeder is a useless tank for a Tegu... I raised my hatchling in...

Severus UV time in the pool....

Great pic... I used to do something very simila rwith mine when he was a baby... Just something to mention... it takes between 1/8~1/4" of water to filter out 100% of the UVB rays from the sun... I am not saying this to discourage you from giving your Tegu an outdoor soak, just sharing a tid...

What time does your gu go down?

My Tegu's schedule has been very inconsistent over the last 3 years... He's a 'go with the flow' kinda dude...

    Bathing

In the spring time my Tegu seems to love 90~100*F bathes, but in the summer months he doesn't care for them (he lives outside in the summer so it's hot and humid)... But I very rarely see him soaking in his water dish inside his enclsoure. It is kept cleaned (changed 2~3 times per week) and...

Amusing to see people i know on fauna good guy bad guy

Spot on! Any moron can make a Bad Guy thread... so you have to actually read the thread and hear the sellers response... I think the Good/Bad Guy forums are a good tool, but like any good tool, you have to use it properly...

    Local pet shops?

In Charlotte: Fintastic has beautiful reef displays, but they are quite pricey... Frank n Pegs was a favorite of mine but they went out of business... Last Place on Earth has a good staff and they try to offer a decent selection but they are a small store... I haven't lived in Wilmington in a...

    Local pet shops?

I've lived in Charlotte NC as well as Wilmington NC... while I've found a few shops run by good people, I don't know of any that are real "eye candy"... other than Fintastic in Charlotte, NC, but all they stock is fish and fish supplies all of which is extremely overpriced.

    Pond filter box help

Semi retired fish geek here :) At the most I had 1500 gallons of fish tanks, right now I have less than I've had in 15 years which is a mere 300 gals :P BioFiltration is the big thrill in the fish world right now. To simplify biofiltration, it's simply providing a media in which bacteria will...

    Bathing

From what I've read, Tegus rarely enter water in the wild... I have very dry skin and bathing too often makes it even drier. This is because the water can wash the oils out fo the skin. It seems to me this could be an issue with Tegus as well. But having said that, in the spring time I bathe...

    My outdoor enclosures

I went on Sunday, and yes it is gettign smaller every time... But they still had some very very sexy Ball Pythons :P and a lot of other eye candy as well... I don't get out towards Greensboro often but next time I do you'll be getting a message ;) Also, feel free to let me know next time you...

    curiosity or something wrong?

It's very possible she simply isn't satisified with the small amount of space she has access too... I put my hatchling into a 4' x 2' as soon as I got him and he did great. I don't think a 40 breeder is big enough for a hatchling...
