I am falling in love with my little guy more and more everyday! He’s still a little resistive to being picked up but he comes to my hand when I have it in his enclosure and then he eats and the gets on my shoulder usually Under my hoodie where it’s warm and just falls asleep. First off, I live in West Tx. where there is NO humidity 95% of the time.When I first started up my 6'x3'x3' enclosure, I was using two reptifoggers to obtain the proper humidity. After about 10 days, one of the reptifoggers went out. So then I bought a room humidifier (LevoitLV600HH). Hello, my roomie and I plan on building a queen sized bed enclosure. Which will be three feet tall, five feet wide, and seven feet long. Never built something like this before. Hi y'all!

I have my red tegu in a 8 x 3 x 3 custom cage with soil, mulch, grass, and a variety of fake plants, hides, rocks, basking platforms, and cork tree bark etc.

But my Virginia native sugar ants have decided to join my enclosure!

Are they safe for my tegu, she doesn't seem to mind but they are everywhere!

Are there any plants or food sources or other insects I should introduce to keep the balance?

Take advantage of sales and order bulk online. Rodentpro often has $30 flat rate shipping specials and MiceDirect often has free shipping if you spend $125. Order a few months worth at a time, it is much cheaper than going to a pet store for your whole prey.

Asian markets have a wide variety of unusual foods available that you won't find at a typical grocery store and for very cheap. Snails, various whole fish and other seafood items, frog legs, etc

Hello all! This is my first post. But I've still read the forums dozens of times.

So I've been doing research but no one seems to have an answer. But my Tegu that I've had for quite a few months now just developed some kind of blue spots around the eye. He seems to be just as happy as normal, as other have said in similar post. But I can't seem to figure out for sure what caused it. He may be about to shed some, but let me show you the pictures and see if anyone else has heard of this...

Down for six months

Alright so this is Kai’s second time down for the winter, last winter he would come up occasionally to drink and bask but this year I haven’t seen him at all. He went down mid October same as last year but he was starting to wake up by mid March last year and he’s still down. I’ve started to gradually raise temps and his humidity to maybe entice him to drink water but still nothing. Should I be worried? Is it normal for them to be down for longer than six months?

I apologize right now since I'm new to this, but what is the difference between the "Blues"? For example one of my local reptile stores has a Red, Black and White, and "Super" Blue Tegu. Just wondering what everyone uses for their tegus substrates ? I’ve tried coco fiber with organic top soil and this last time cypress mulch.. just want to see what people have had good luck with, I am not a huge fan of the cypress after this last time and my tegu is due for a substrate change this week

So this first day I got him out of his box he was sent to me in and I held him he was great. Yesterday I got home from work and tried to get him out and he bolted a couple times I eventually got him and held him for about an hour and he just hung out on my chest under my sweater but today he is getting all huffy and puffy with me and wiggling his tail at me did I ruin things by catching him?
