Should I be worried Bloated Female

My female recently mated with my male about 14 days ago. I have only given her two small mice. She’s always been on the heavy side but today she seems way too bloated. She doesn’t have any temperament changes still acts the same I held her today and rubbed her back. Just a little concerned about...

    Feeding whole (coturnix) quail?

I’ve feed my Tegu’s small chickens fully feathered and they had no problems at all. My male abooka actually had an easier time than kieko due to his mouth size. However they passed them pretty easily as well and it only took one to get them full. I would assume the cortunix quail would fall in...

    New tegu owner housing/heat concern

Honestly it depends upon the Tegu and when they feel safe and comfortable to come out. Remember this is just my opinion/ 2 cents. With my Tegu’s I allowed them to get used to me from a distance. They both hid for about a month until I could be in the room without them darting to their hide. To...

    New tegu owner housing/heat concern

Simply put the more substrate the more moisture which means increase in humidity. You will need that due to your tegu’s enclosure.

    New tegu owner housing/heat concern

Congrat's on the new guy! To answer your questions, yes raise your basking area until you hit that 100-110 range. I raised mine by adding two bricks and placing a floor tile on them! Also with your setup you will have issues with keeping humidity. I would suggest getting some wrap and wrapping...

Tegu growth with a missing tail

After viewing your photo's I think the biggest prevention for growth for your tegu is your enclosure. At 6-8 months my Tegu's were already in their adult enclosure 6.5x3x3. Granted it isn't the recommended size however I supplement that with regular free roaming in my side enclosed patio. In...

Newly moved tegu. Thoughts on behavior?

IMO your spot on, the behavior of your Tegu is D "All the above". There are a lot of changes to its housing, environment, new sounds, smells etc. When you move the Tegu from your friends house to your house it didn't forget how to bask. I believe there's something it isn't familiar with or...

    Amount of food?

Hi and welcome! Hopefully I can answer your questions! 1. Frozen rats are great or large frozen mice. Taking your question at face value of course you want to have a dedicate thawing bucket. Then feed once thawed out. 2. You should feed her until she signals to you she is done! This is usually...

    Poor diet

If your really looking to fatten her up, I recommend getting some ground turkey, mixing that with egg and throw in some crickets with a little calcium. You could even roll them into little balls. My Tegu's loved them and still do!

    Brumation Question

I don't know if this helps but to check in on both of my tegu's for brumation. I would unblock their hide entrance and within an hour I would see them block it back up. You can also simply uncover a portion of their abdomen to make sure there breathing. If they wake up they may drink some water...

    Stuck shed question

Not a problem did it for my male after brumation and it worked like a charm. I'll try to make a vid how to do it on my handle too. Looks like my female needs a little help as well.

    Cost?

Cost will vary depending upon what you feed your tegu, its food response and age. Within a month I spend about $30 per Tegu with my yearlings. When my tegu's were hatchlings I would buy crickets in bulk (1000 ) and supplement with Calcium powder this set me back about $40 a month.
