I am starting this thread to discuss the "blue" name given to blue tegus.

This thread is what started the discussion.

Please keep it civil.

Thanks for starting a new thread. As stated time and time again, the blue is merely blue tint that could be found in some, not all, blue tegus. Not all of them are blue but they have characteristics that make them fall into the "blue" tegu category. I believe the blue pit bull picture you used in the previous thread is a perfect example and comparison to the blue tegu discussion we have going on here.

I think www.bluetegu.com has perfect examples of what a blue tegu could really look like. Here's a link to the photo gallery on the website.

http://www.bluetegu.com/gallery/bluetegu/

The first pic is a fine example, and the rest speak for themselves.

Sure, not all "blue" tegus are blue, but they share the same characteristics as the blues, ie burnt nose, teardrop, etc.

Let's see what others have got to say after viewing the pics.

The color blue has a wide spectrum, people fail to realize this, when they here blue they picture either royal blue or skyblue and inbetween, like tegubuzz mentioned many times most blue tegus have a blue tint to them, its not hard to distinguish blues from b/w and giants and vice versa, ill ask this are all red tegus red? no some are orange, brown or pinkish are these not red tegus anymore?

I hope that works, let me know if it doesnt. This tegu had two very red parents and turned out completely different from its clutchmates.

I can't wait to see pics as those grow, it's sibling is a high white as well with some red under tones but no where close to a normal red for now. It's in the last few pics for this album.

Until someone does genetic testing then no one will know for sure. I personally think they're closely related to Argentine Black and Whites. However, they clearly have a number of differences so it all gets confusing. I for one am quite sure that "Extreme Giants" are just a locality of Black and Whites, but some would disagree with me. If I had to make a concrete decision I would have to say that blues, like "Extreme Giants", are a locality of black and whites that have a different color and size, although blues clearly have a bigger differential in color than "extreme giants".

This is a very good argument, and I would agree that Extremes are a locality (Chacoan from Chaco Argentina). Now blues, I believe are from the same places as black and whites which would make them not a different locality. Of course I have never seen a wild tegu, so I can't say where they are found.

Yeah, if anyone wanted to find any hard proof of where they do or don't live they'd have to talk to the people who live there and study them(if there are any).
