Feeding my Tegu

So I know I can feed tegus sardines but at what age should I give them? My tegus are both under a year, ones probably almost a year as I'm not sure since he was wild caught and the other is about 6 months. (he's still green) but we have canned sardines in water and I was wondering if and when I should feed them that?

You can cut them up into bite sized pieces. Aim for no larger than the distance between their eyes
