Hey guys I just recently bought a tegu which wasn't labeled. I believe it to be a blue tegu like a solid 90% sure. They told me it was a few months old but from what I'm gathering it looks to be a few weeks old. This is also my first tegu let alone my first reptile. I'm already in love with my little spaghetti. I've got a basking light in my room so when I let him wander he's got a hot spot. I'd like to believe it's a happy healthy tegu. I say this because it's eating alot of food on a daily basis (ground Turkey currently) with a healthy sprinkle of calcium powder every other day on a few pieces. It's also pooped on my floor three out of the four days I've had it home (Brown and white with a healthy pool of liquid). I spray it on a daily basis and bath it about once a week. Everyday I come home from work I feed it and take it out. I've been trying to feed it out of my palm (not with my hands out of my hands with a fork) as somone said this would help with getting him familiar with me. Any tips pointers or literally anything at all to help make my spaghetti the wettest noodle with no sauce would greatly appreciated. I wanna give this little monster the best life possible. Thank you so much and I'm looking forward to hearing some responses

Beautiful tegu! Congrats and welcome.
I have absolutely no clue how old it is or really anything about it because the person I was speaking to was unsure. So I'm beyond words once I dug around and gathered some info. I scored it for about 100 bucks from a pet shop in town. I've never really done any socialising of any sort with reptiles before so this will be interesting to say the least. Wish me luck. I will most defiantly be asking many questions in the weeks to come.

Do so. Also, check out older threads on all sorts of topics. lots of useful information. Tegus of that size usually go for at least twice that.

I happened to walk in on a good day. I had a membership and a sale on it specially. But it was also just labeled tegu on the tank so they had no clue what type it is. So this will be a learning experience for everyone involved.

I was basically in the same situation about 3 months ago and things are still moving slow ..... But I'm pretty sure Alpha came from someone who endlessly chased and grabbed him/her as he/she is totally calm by his/her self and once with me but catching him/her theres still some trust issues ... patience and common sence go along way which will in the long run lead you to having a great relationship.....goodluck
