Yuk sand? Y sdand there are a lot better choices of substrate out there. Hate to preach and all but...ya.
I used to use sand...had 3 geckos dead in a week, although those were the first animals I had and I really didn't know all that much about them. After I did my research I found out how to care for these guys...on sand. I'm down to one now and I decided to play it safe.
These guys are probably one of my fav herps though, so hurry up and get some pix in. lol.

I agree its not great, but they have been fine for almost 2 years, and were making babies like crazy this summer. The granules of sand is super fine, not like sugar in the raw, but almost a powder sand. When I get ready to swap next time I think I am going to use the reptile sand. They are neat little creatures. I thought about getting rid of them to get some cresties.

I sift mine on a regular basis, so it really keeps no smell, I guess I've just been lucky so far. The calcium substrate really is the way to go. I have thought if I keep them to do it out of good ole north cackilacky clay.

I don't usually find sand a problem with proper hydration and temps.

There are a bunch of people that use play sand, I have never been a fan of the stuff, but many use it. I was always worried about them they way they lick everything. :)

Sand or no sand that is still a pretty nice lookin vivarium. If you are looking at getting cresties, they are pretty cool. A lot of good stuff in the Rhacodactylus genus.
