I live in central Florida and I’m researching tegus. If I built an outdoor enclosure inside a patio screen area will the patio screen block the UV rays?
It depends on how fine it is but yes it does block some. Hard to say exactly how much without a UVB meter... Tegus can also climb and will make short work of it as well so be careful where you place it if you do use it.
Oh he’s gonna be in his own outdoor enclosure where he can tear up the screen. I was thinking of putting the enclosure close to the corner of the patio that gets the most sun so he can get all the UVB he needs, but was wondering if the patio screen will filter too much of the rays if I did that
I think you'll still need a UVB light just in case, but give as much sun as possible!! They do need their cool (70 deg) area, which is as important as their heat/bask area.
