Hey!
I’m looking into getting my very first tegu, and I have a couple questions about the best one for me.
I have a shelf that can hold a tank I’m going to custom build that is 23” deep and 8’ long. I’m looking for a tegu that can live comfortably in there for its entire life. Also it would be great if it’s not overly expensive, I know tegus aren’t cheap at all, I am just looking for one that is not thousands of dollars. Also, what is the best food for them? I know they need lots of veggies and fruits, but what meats are best? Any additional tips? Thanks!

23 inches of depth is simply not enough for a tegu. The poor thing wouldnt even be able to turn around properly. Consider a different species of reptile if you want to use that footprint. This goes doubly so if you are concerned about cost, a tegu is one of the most expensive reptiles you can keep.
