I had this question for a very long time Why are golden tegus cheaper than black and whites? Is it because of their bad reputation? are they are they easier to breed?
To be honest I found them quite beautiful, I just love their golden color! that's why I decided to own one. (He's from a farm btw) Even if they say they're the hardest to tame. (After taking care of my iguanas, a Tegu should be a piece of cake.

Imported verycheaply is primary reason. Also, not as quick to calm down as Argies.

I am by far no expert, never held a golden tegu, in fact Ive never even seen one other then in pictures. When I decided to move from Bearded Dragons to Tegu last year, I did a lot of reading articles, forums and watching videos. From what I could ascertain its seems to come down to they are harder to tame and more apt to bit its owner. Time after time, those two things kept floating to the surface on any serious conversation. It was enough to persuade me to go with a Argentine Black and white and the Red Tegu.

They almost all wc is why. I believe Argentine tegus and Cuban rock iguanas are the only consistently bred large lizards, which is what makes them cost more.
