my tegus basking spot is on top of one of his wooden hides. somtimes the temps reach up to around 115. maybe a degree or two higher. but usually it is right around 110. are those temperature spikes ok? currently the temp is 116. even when it spikes he stays under it. he sits under the light all day it seems.

Those temps should be ok as long as they are not staying at that temp for long periods of time. How are the temps for the rest of the cage? Your Gu should have a place to go that has cooler temps or into his/her hide to cool off if needed.

he does. the opposite side of the cage is about 75. he set up his burrow underneath his hot spot. and he loves it there. he is actually still sleeping. haha. and he loves basking. he is either there or just running around. and not they dont stay there for long periods of time. just random spike throughout the day for a little bit. then it will drop again.

I wouldn't go above 115. How close is he to the basking light ? Do you have a picture of the enclosure ? Thank you.
