Getting my First Tegu...tips?

Hi there. So I'm finally getting my First tegu after wanting one for over a year. I've done loads of research on how to care for them but still have a few minor questions: how do you go about picking a healthy tegu at reptile shows or conventions? Are there specific signs of a healthy or unhealthy tegu hatchling? I'm going to the Sacramento reptile show and I'm a little nervous about picking a very healthy baby. Also I'll be getting him in late September so will it be going into hibernation fairly quickly after I get it? If so should I feed him or not when I bring him home? Any other advise will be fantastic thank you! :)

I heard there wouldn't be any for sale at that show on the 24th and 25th so I got mine a few days ago and it was the last from that specific breeder. I hope you find one! I fed mine the day after I got him and he ate a lot! Good luck!

Without knowing the vendor, really buyer beware. Members here have have provided positive reviews of several breeders and vendors. I suggest that as a starting point, even if it means shipping. Keep posted.

I know LLL Reptiles is going to be there and they had them last year. They seemed like a pretty reputable company to me but if it is other wise please let me know. I saw one or two other vendors with them there I can't remember the names of so if nothing else I know at least one vendor will have them. Thank you for sharing about your tegu that's comforting as far as hibernation goes. :)

Yeah I emailed them a couple weeks ago, email them and they will tell you what they will have at the show up to a week in advance, that is what I was told! :)
