Re: My Three babies.

I use a 5.0 UVB light. Give tegu 6-8hours UVB per day, is that good?

Thanks

Re: My Three babies.

Nice tegus you got there. I'd go with 10.0 minimum for a growing tegu.

I used 5.0 too until my tegu started showing signs of MBD, when I switched to 10.0 + mercury vampor bulb he improved greatly. Nice rosey boa as well, cool snakes.

Here's the post if you care to see the early stages of MBD showing on my tegu while using a 5.0 and how he looked after I switched to 10.0 + megaray.. Notice the buggy looking eyes and stunted appearance of his snout in 1st picture where he's showing some signs of MBD then how quickly he improved once I switched to better lighting. If Bobby hadn't pointed out to me that my lighting sucked I'd probably have spent a ton in vet bills and might have lost my gu.

What kind of food u feed ur tegu during 5.0 times?

Because I dont give my monitor ANY UVB, but no one show the sign of MBD.

I feed them turkey, chicken wing, mice, pinky, fish, worm and any insects.

i also used a 5.0 with nero when he as a hatchling; after a few weeks i started noticing the toes on his hind legs were trembling and muscles were jumping both early signs of mbd. i never changed his diet its always been 2 rodents twice a week(til he moved up to rats) and turkey, liver, gizzards, ect. after i switched him over to a 10.0 the symptoms went away and never returned.

What kind of monitor do you have? You really don't use any uvb for your monitor? I'm no expert, but I would definitely go with at least a 10.0 bulb for your tegus.

It's an ongoing debate as to whether or not monitors benefit from uvb lighting. Tegus are definitely not monitors and providing adequate lighting is very important. I think I read somewhere that part of the reason they seem to develop MBD so readily is because they grow so darn quickly. This makes proper nutrition and lighting that much more important and with a smaller margin for error than when dealing with the slower growing monitors.

I think I will consider to change to 10.0 UVB. I have many Chinese Friends they use the 5.0 UVB for Tegu. But now, I find out they are right and u guys are right too. In china, their voltage output is 220V, here is 110V. I know in china 10.0UVB means 10% UVB. How about here? the 5.0= 10% UVB?

Thanks guys~!!
