New Outdoor Cages for the Lacertas

Hi Mark,

They were the ones climbing on the screen (I think that video did show the jeweleds doing a little climbing as well though too) Diet is much the same as Jeweled Lacertas... Insects and fruit, just smaller lol. They are not lizards to handle but can be hand and tong fed with patience. They arent available very often however I have a few adults I could move and I know of 2 other people who work with them as well that sell them. Price varies on the supplier, but they not nearly as costly as jeweled lacertas. I could probably get you 1.1 for around 100 shipped, however that is a rough estimate.

Here's a thread where someone was inquiring about them and a lot of info was exchanged

if you have any questions let me know

The wall lizards look very nice, but a little to small for my preference. Maybe I might would like to get some down the road but right know I got my interest on the Jeweled Lacertas. Thanks, Mark

Yea if you ever want any just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
I'm actually trying to get some other lacerta species right now too.
Trying to get a hold of Lacerta bilineata, lacerta trilineata and lacerta viridis.
I work with a wholesaler who is attening the huge reptile Show in Hong Kong that is comign up. Hopefully the European breeders attending this show will have some of these species my boss can bring into the US for me. I'll continue to keep an eye out for Jeweleds for you. The breeder I got mine from will be returning to the US in late august. I can ask then if there is any left. He also had the melanistic jeweled lacertas as well.
I was very tempted lol

Yes please keep me informed, I really appreciate it. The Jeweled Lacerta is the size I like, and they look like mini tegus, I was thinking about getting a Blue Tegu but but I don't want such a huge cage in my house. I used to have a six foot long Green Iguana in a huge cage but got rid of him because of his size. I also had a Dwarf Chilean Tegu which I really like alot, good size and he liked being handled and really cool looking. I know Chile does not export them any more and no one breeds them also. My Jeweled "Spot" reminds me of him a lot, just about the same size and similar look but a different color.

Is the breeder you talked about named Alex from San Francisco. I inquired about a listing I saw on Kingsnake.com for Baby Black Jeweled Lacertas but it said nothing about them being Melanistic. When the regular green and blue lacertas eggs hatch are the babies black or is this the Melanistic variety he is selling?

Well I'm jealous that you got to keep a Chilean dwarf tegu! It does sucks chile is closed to export. I saw someone selling a pair of them in Canada a couple years ago, I wanted them!! haha

That looks like a nice Male you have there. Good coloration.

Yes Alex is the breeder. I had the pleasure of going to his house and seeing all the jeweleds he had for sale as well as some other lacertid species. He was selling both varieties on Kingsnake. The Black jeweled lacertas are actually a melanistic variety of the very closley related Timon pater (I beleive it used to be considered a subspecies of Timon (lacerta) lepidus )
. Bert langerwerf is the one whom originally started breeding them.
Here's the article on that

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lacerta.de/englische-Version/index-englisch.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.lacerta.de/englische-Version ... lisch.html</a><!-- m -->

the article link is at the bottom of that page, there is no direct link.

The babies of the melanistic variety are black. I have a picture I took of one when I was there. I'm not quite sure where it is though.

Mark,

I spoke with Alex, he only has males left right now but is hoping for more hatchlings around November. So not the best of news, but it's something.

I talked to Linda and ordered 3 for Thurs. delivery. She is a very nice lady and even lowered the price to $75 each + shipping, which I think is a great price for such a hard lizard to find. Spot sitting pretty!

This will be very interesting to see yours vs mine color up and mature as they are very close to the same age, only a couple months apart I suppose.

The babies have arrived, and they look and act great. Two are two weeks old and the little guy is one week old, the one week old is from a different clutch. They ate and drank water right away and are not as shy as I thought they would have been.,I was able to touch the little guy, but not hold him, they are super fast too. Thanks again Kevin for the lead, Linda at Switzers was great to deal with also. I added a few picks of them also, the little snake in the picture is a fake rubber decoration.
