substrate in nose or injury from shedding?

I apologize for the bad picture but this has been on my tegus nose for a couple of days(since Tuesday) now. He just started his second shed (around Sunday) and I want to assume it's an injury from scraping or its substrate that got into his nose (zoomed Eco earth coco husk(really beginning to dislike the stuff). Also does anyone have a good suggestion for substrates? Cypress mulch seems to be the most popular.

Looks like an injury but I'm no expert. The best substrate choice in my opinion is a peat moss/top soil/sand mix with a layer of leaves on top. Works better than cypress because the can actually burrow.

Clean it up the best you can with a wet q-tip and then post another photo. Don't stick the q-tip very far into the nostril, just enough to remove that debris.
