Tegu Housing question

Ok, so my tegu is still a baby, but he's getting to the point of needing a larger cage. I wanted to know if this would work. I know with many animals you can use a clear plastic storage container (those huge ones for like clothes and stuff) and the animals are happy with that. Would it be possible to use something like that with a much larger one, the size of a terrarium for an adult, for a permanent home as long as he still has his cage top (the normal wire tops that most cages use) and the humidity and lighting stays at normal levels. I need to know so I know how much Im going to need to put out to make his living conditions as good as i can without breaking the bank, since i cant find a good sized cage that isnt high priced.

Boils down to this- Yor tegu will ultimately need 8X4' ground space, UVB, and a gradient of heat from 115 F bask to mid-upper 70s F hide. Do it safely.

but this idea could work? or should i keep looking for an affordable glass enclosure
I don't really know. It sounds doable. Mine are active outside and sleep hard in the winter. I would see what other members think.

You will not be able to find a suitable sized glass enclosure and if you did it would be super expensive. I'm not sure what type of plastic storage container you are referring to, I have never seen one that I think would be of suitable size. Also with plastic there is danger of it melting or off-gassing with the high temps you will be using.

With tegus you really have two options, either you build an enclosure or you allow it to free roam.

I can't believe there isn't a company that specialises in large enclosures outside of the UK. We're lucky to have pro vivariums who make lovely big ones at a reasonable price. It would have cost us much more to build one ourselves as fun as that would be. :(
