What kind of turtle is this? I live in TN and nearly chopped this guy up with my john deere. He is some sort of hypo, since all the others I find like him have dark pigment in there shells. Maybe i will find him again in the yard, since I let him go into the woods.

That is a box turtle but it looks much different that the Eastern variety we have here in Maryland or NJ. Definitely a box turtle though.

in my opinion, it looks like some kind of box turtle. have to check what kind to be sure though. very pretty tort though!
(i live in tn too and i find box turtles in the woods behind our house- they are fun to watch!)

What I can tell you is that the bottom of his plastron is hinged to shut up tight on both the fron and the back end.
