Where are blues from?

Where are blues from? From the accounts of people on this website blues don't seem to hibernate as hard as the Argentinian black and whites or reds. Blues are also not as massive or cold tolerant as the reds or black and whites. I think if we knew what their natural environment was like it would help with basic husbandry. I understand the original six came out of Columbia correct? Has there been much field work with tegus?

The rumor or myth is they came in as a shipment of columbians only one guy knows if that's true and he doesn't seem to be very social, I've never seen or heard of field work with tegus and been searching a lot. I still don't understand why tegus are such a mystery, 9 out of 10 people I mention tegus to have never heard of them, can't even find a book on tegus without monitors in front of it

Thats a great question . I think Ron St something or other , his actual name escapes me, was breeding them .But stopped due to family issues. And though I keep seeing people posting pics of they're gu's locked breeding. I don't seem to see a large presence in the pet trade of baby, blue tegus. not babyblue tegus . I'm still waiting for someone to sneak some yellows or some crocodile tegus into the US. I can't wait

Generally they are smaller than b/w and red tegus. Not always the case, I think theres a member on this forum who has a pretty big blue. I don't think there have been a ton of studies on blue tegus. You can poke around this forum or thetegu.com, there are tons of threads on blues. Most of them seem to be giant arguments but some of them have good info. They was some inbreeding when the original ones came to the US.

That's so true. I know the whole story about there being only six originally. I'm wondering about them in the wild. It's funny to me that there's so much field work on monitors and we don't really even know where blues came from. We don't even have a scientific name for blues. People say they are a subspecies of Tupinambis Marianae but you can see the babies look different and I understand that blues don't hibernate as deeply and aren't as cold tolerant. The last two points make me think that they came from farther north than T. Marianae.

That thread is exactly what I'm looking for thanks. I started reading Tupinambis' other posts and he has lists of papers from field work and clinical resaerch. I also read the rest of that thread and understood why he isn't on this website. Lol

WOW, I haven't been around here in a while! I started those posts to put all the info I could find on Blues in one place and get any additional info people would post. It got really ugly. A lot of the bickering posts were deleted. That's all I've got to say on that.
