    New with a gold tegu.

He actually is very calm once he is picked up. Its just his insane feeding response. The former owners must have thought it was funny to make him leap up to grab his food(they fed him live mice). And he is always hungry so makes it hard to train him. I cant get a bowl in the cage without him...

    A couple more questions please

As far as age Im going by what they told me, I didnt get alot of info really. But he looks and acts healthy. I have been feeding him all kinds of foods just to see what he will eat and so far any and everything, even blueberries and grapes. I also got some calcium with d3 as I havent set up a...

    A couple more questions please

Well he can leap right out of the 55 gallon tank. I did that today when I was feeding him with the tongs a piece of fish. I was able to pick him up with my hand and set him on a towel on the bed while he ate. But when I put him back in the tank he panicked and went a little crazy.

    A couple more questions please

He is around a year and half old and still pretty small so how long does it take to grow to full size? And what size cage, Im guessing 6ft x 2 x2 would be adequate for a full grown teguixin. Also its obvious they fed him live and in the tank, how do I start with calming him down so I can take...

What happens to all the untame/aggressive tegus?

Pawned off sounds about right, like all those crazy iguanas. I think the problem with research before buying is that you see all these people saying they are untameable but you hold on to that one or two that have the tame ones and brag about how tame they are, then one thinks, oh I can be one...

What happens to all the untame/aggressive tegus?

Ive been to quite a few reptile expos and have seen plenty of 50 dollar gold or black and white teguixins being sold. I dont see many people with adults on the message boards but do see lots of people with baby or juveniles asking for advice on taming. So what happens to all these tegus later...

    My adopted gold tegu Twitch

Yes I can see that already. Im very nervous that I will fail at taming him. He is tame once he is out but the fun part is getting him out without him thinking my hand is food..

    My adopted gold tegu Twitch

Here is Twitch, I took him in this last weekend. Semi tame but with one heck of a feeding response. I used to have a huge male black and white tegu over 10 years ago so have some experience but not with such a high strung animal like these teguixins.

    New with a gold tegu.

Hello, Im new here and just took in a gold tegu. I had an argentine years ago, he was a monster but quite a great pet. Anyway I am unsure if I am keeping him yet.But in the mean time I want to train him. He was fed live mice in his tank before and is now assumes everything coming near the tank...
