    Best Hides for tegu's?

Looks good. I used left over peices of floor tile as they're lighter than rock or slate. And I just glued 3 walls made of tile. I like it because its thermally conductive heats up real nice for a basking platform. Also keeps the hide underneath nice and warm too. You can check it out in my videos.

Some pics of a couple reds

Is that darker tegu in the last picture a female? Or is that the same one, just without dirt?

My First argentine B&W tegu! just a few questions!

Interesting. Try and switch its schedule by putting the light on a timer. I'm really confused about the size and timing that you got it. Pics would be most helpful. Wild caught argentine eggs or baby exported from south america sounds like too much work.

    New Tegu owner

Cool looks good. My vid is on my youtube channel now. He'll outgrow it in a few months so start planning a larger enclosure now. Columbians don't hibernate so they keep growin. I don't know the specifics of your uvb light but most work best within 12 in. of the tegu. Keep up the updates I'm...

    New Tegu owner

Nice lookin gu! Is it a black and gold? looks like it. I just took a video of mine. She's about 6 or 7 months old. So you can get an idea of how fast they grow. I'll upload it in a minute. Take some pics of your enclosure if ya could. Also once they get bigger they will understand the opening...

    Live Plants

That's a nice list. Should add a few more and maybe pics and we could make it a sticky on the forums. Here's a site, I know its for uros but it has some good nutritional info on plants <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.deerfernfarms.com/Food_Plants.htm"...

My First argentine B&W tegu! just a few questions!

Hello and welcome, First off, I would probably switch the infrared to a basking bulb or ceramic heater as i've heard infrared can cause eye problems to diurnal species when its meant for nocturnal. Are you sure its an argentine? Check for solid stripes down its sides and two scales between...

    Monitors and Tegus?

Great Post! You should add more info to the Tegu part. I think monitors and tegu's share the same suborder. Brittanica encyclopedia and itis.gov say that they share a suborder of autarchoglossa. From what I read, scleroglossa was broken up into Gekkota and autarchoglassa. So is autarchoglossa...

    Live Plants

I use different variation of dragon trees I believe they are called and Bamboo is strong and last for awhile as well as corn plants (dracaena) but anything with large fan leaves will pretty much become speckled with holes from their claws and die off. I use rockwool cubes for the roots and place...

    Scar?

Make sure the light fixture is securely fastened. Idk if it would just sit there and burn like that, but I've seen stuff like that when the light falls on top of them and the bulb actually makes contact with the scales. You didn't ask your friend when you got it? It's pretty noticeable, jw

    Substrate and Humidity control

I like the bigger peices of cypress. When it gets too small it can stick to their eyes, bugs me and probably the tegu even more lol. They are expert burrowers though. Wish I had a head cam for the tegu while it burrows, cuz it does some crazy stuff under there and still stays completely hidden...

    One more question:)

Awesome thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to do it when I get some extra cash. Thinking about 2ft deep trench, use 2x4's to make a bottom frame 2.5 feet tall above ground. Cover the floor with hardware cloth. Plate the sides with metal roofing. Then I'm thinking about building the rest...

    Substrate and Humidity control

I'm assuming that's an aquarium. What size? And is it a screen top? On my old tank I had to cover most of the screen top with plastic wrap in order to keep humidity in with just the mulch being moist. The moist hide is a good idea. If you have a large enclosure ( you'll be needing one...
