    Why fruit for tegus?

Bobby, a lot of what you are arguing with is yourself, please don't feel the need to spank me because you can't handle a little debate. Let me ask what you are arguing about. I said that a lot of people state vit.C is needed for proper shedding. I also stated I have not found any study that...

    Why fruit for tegus?

Some of what you have said is true, some of it is unfortunately short sighted. The most common thing that is bantered around concerning fruit and tegus is that they need vit.C for proper shedding. I'll back you on this, there's no study to prove any such thing. However, one compelling...

Added D3 has been proven to cause impactions.

Well, Bobby, I do have to agree you do have some very valid points. I wholeheartedly agree that most of the "reptile" supplements available for sale in petstores have absolutely lousy quality control and their claims are dubious at best. Reptile sprays, for one, are a complete joke. Most...

    particle board vs plywood

Fibreboard, like you are already aware of, is crap for animal enclosures. High humidity or dampness and the stuff just goes to pot. It's cheap for a reason. Plywood is generally quite fine, but like any wood, will have to be sealed somehow against moisture and germ penetration. Some people...

    Jobs/careers in Herpetology

Beazer has a few things right, and a few things wrong. It certainly does take somebody very dedicated to become a herpetologist as there really are very few jobs in the private sector, and in the academic sector there simply isn't the funding for "herpetology" related science. For example, I...

How to get your Tegu to eat Fruit

Infertile or fertile eggs may harbor Salmonella, and the Salmonella is on the outside of the egg (think of where the egg comes from biologically). Cleaning the egg properly will help just as well. But the other reason to cook the egg is to denature the avidin in the egg white.

Added D3 has been proven to cause impactions.

Admittedly, what is an overdose is not clearly defined. What is an overdose in one animal may not be an overdose in another. Most clearly defined "overdoses" are exagerations designed to guarantee an outcome (usually death, but there are exceptions). However, lets apply your logic to feeding...

Added D3 has been proven to cause impactions.

For the edification of people who may have troubles reading that bit above, there is NOTHING in the article that "proves D3 causes impaction". There is a warning that OVERDOSE may be related to constipation, which is not the same as impaction. It does need to be put out that as vitamin D...

    Can you reference that finding?

    found another odd lookin tegu

PuffDragon, you are completely correct, people do come here to discuss and share information freely. That is exactly what I did, I shared the information freely. I was then basically requested to instruct on what that information means. The time it took me to write that description was...

    found another odd lookin tegu

Unfortunately, this forum does not have the means to upload photos nor do I know of a site that will accurately and graphically depict what it is I think you are looking for. I have photos of what I can guarantee are T.quadrilineatus, but otherwise I can only tell you to look up the two...

    found another odd lookin tegu

Let me get this straight...the means by which to accurately identify what species a lizard is is meaningless to you, but a mostly meaningless photo of which you can't tell the defining characters is more important? I understand the craving of a photo, but as has been said numerous times, and...

    found another odd lookin tegu

That is english, it's the scientific description of the scalation on the head of Tupinambis quadrilineatus as per Colli, Peres & da Cunha, 1998. Pictures can be worth a thousand words, but they also tend to be the crutch of the functionally illiterate.

    found another odd lookin tegu

Rostral pentagonal, wider than tall, visible from above, separated from frontonasal by upper nasals. Frontonasal hexagonal, approximately as long as wide. Prefontals irregular, hexagonal, longer than wide, about as long as frontal. Frontal irregular, octagonal, almost elliptical, longer than...

    found another odd lookin tegu

Sorry, Bobby, I not so sure that's Tupinambis teguixin at all. The head shape and, from what I can see of, the cranial scalation is wrong. That looks like what is currently classified as Tupinambis quadrilineatus.
