B/W or RED Tegu?

I'm having a hard time choosing which type of tegu I want.

It will be my first tegu and I absolutely LOVE Reds but I also love the fact that B/W's are supposedly more "tame"...

I thought I'd add that I am unable to get a tegu from Bobby due to my location.

Thoughts?

My thumbs up are to the B/W's.

The reds are pretty and all, but as a first Gu, I'm glad I went with the B/W since the reds are a little more nippy from what I read and a charging BW occasionally is all the aggression I can handle LOL.

personally, i own a black and white one, puppy dog tame,
but my friend has a red tegu and its just as tame and it has been its whole life.
the price isnt a huge diffrence, if you put all your time and love into the tegu youll get it back and it wont be pissy,
it comes down to your personal preference no matter what color argentine tegu you get they all require the same care pretty much

I have no clue where reds get this nippy rep from. All the reds i have seen as adults seem just puppy dog tame. Someone brought into a store i was at a red tegu that had been spray painted and left in his cage in a dumpster. I had him for three weeks until i found him a new home. The first few days he didnt do much but after that he was up wandering around investigating everything. He even ate out of my hand gentle dispite being under wieght.

There are some reds as they are growing up do get a bit fiesty but so do most tegus. Just keep in mind the more you work with them the better chance you'll have a tame tegu. Also reds do need more fruit in their diet to aid with sheding issues.

I have also heard that Reds are slightly more aggressive than B&Ws, although I have no clue if this is valid or not. I've heard stories of perfectly tame Reds, as well as slightly nippy ones. But I've heard stries of nippy B&Ws too...

My advice is think long and hard about which you like better, and get the one you like better. This animal will likely be with you for a very long time, so get the one you really want. Either way, Tegus are a lot of work, so make sure your going to be happy with the result of your investment...

Oh i got a great alternative... get both in one animal! A hybrid! Well if you go that rout might as well get an all american then you get alittle bit of everything.

I don't intend on changing my mind :) Sorry. lol

I've already bought a month and a half's worth of extra-lean ground turkey for the little one.
