Dozer won't eat whole prey. I give him supliments but am not sure how much to give. What kind of foods have a good calcium count in it? Planning on getting chicken necks next payday but he is a little picky.

I know flax seed is high in calcium, so is herring. I'm not sure if they are tegu safe but I'll poke around and see if I can find anything. Have you tried cutting up whole prey? It's gross (imo) but may be worth a shot.

I have a suggestion, but it is a little gross. You could buy a meat grinder and grind up rats/mice/chicks, and mix it in with what he is eating. Increase the amount of rats and try whole rats every once in a while. Have you tried roaches?

I'm not squeemish. At all. I've killed and gutted enough animals to eat. Killed.plenty of rats for snake food. I'll try it next payday. Have a large stock of meats in the freezer.

My bratty columbian only eats every other day, or whenever he feels like it. We put a f/t rat fuzzy in there the other day.... he didn't TOUCH IT. Right before we turned the lights out for the night, my husband dug around to find him, made him come up, pissed him off, then put the fuzzy in his gaping mouth. He drug it to a corner and chowed down on it....then burrowed again.

I don't suggest our method.... pissing it off. But it did work.

Dont know how available they might be in your area, but the snails used for Escargot are a really great source of calcium. When I used to keep Uroplatus, you could literally see the huge difference a few snails in the diet made from looking at their calcium sacks. The breeding females especially loved them. :)
