what you need to understand is that these lizards are a source of food down there. wee see them as "pets" whereas thhey see them as a livestock. of what i hear they are alot like squirrels are here.
its a shame to us but to them, they just got dinner

yeah but kill it quick!!!!! BOTTOM LINE!

thats may be true but look what we do to cows and other live stock. or fish for that matter. sometimes we just release the fish after spearing them with a hook. we are not better by anymeans. the human race is cruel and so is nature. look how long it takes a lion to kill a buffalo or a croc to drown a wildabeast. i realize yall are upset as am I but i just see it as them trying to survive. one animal must die so another my feed and survive. thus is the carniverous way of life.

Yeah, I do understand it completely, but I'M not out there brutally killing cows and such for me to eat. If it were my choice, I'd hunt for all my food, and I hope to one day be able to. Any meat we by is free-roamed. Meaning they didn't live their lives in tiny tiny cages to be brutally murdered and eaten.

It just looks like they made a game out of killing that animal. It's like hunting for sport...I don't like it. "I shot this buck...just so I could hang his head on my wall". What?? I'm not saying it's wrong to hang the head on the wall, as long as you used the meat and such, and didn't kill him just for that trophy.

i personally hunt quite a bit and we have a den with the mounts in it. but we use all the meat we get. and i can say from experience that theanimal dosnt always die quick and painlessly like you hope it will. sometimes its a bad shot, sometimes its just a strong animal or other of the many reasons. and in that situation the animal may live for hours or even days before dying if it even dies at all. the reality of it is that the animal is in pain before it dies. its not alway instantanious. hunting isnt fair by anymeans but its the most efficient way to get food. that deer or whatever your hunting dosnt know you are in a tree waiting for it. and its relaxing to me just to be out in the woods and beable to see nature in all its beauty. im not trying to start an arguement or anything like that. im am just expressing my opinion and my experiences from hunting. im an avid hunter and have no regrets about hunting but i just wanted to point out that it is not always (or even mostly) quick and painless. killer whales make a game out of killing seals to teach their young to hunt and dont kill it for a while of playing with it.

Oh, I know it's not always painless. At least they got to live a life of freedom. And they aren't killed out of sport, and someone isn't making a game of it.
Orrca whales are different, that's how they teach their young. We are supposed to be a more intelligent species, which leaves me to believe that we should feel compassionate about all these creatures in the world, and we should care for them humanly, and when we need them for food, kill them as humanly as possible.

Rather than focus on the reality of nature that we live in, I would just like to say that is one amazing looking tegu. I am wondering if the colors are distorted or if in fact it is that blue. The blue tegus here in the States have a long way to go if they ever want to be that blue.

We are supposed to be a more intelligent species,

are we? we pollute the water we drink and kill off things we need with no thought of what it will do in the future. but thats a different topic

We are supposed to be a more intelligent species, which leaves me to believe that we should feel compassionate about all these creatures in the world, and we should care for them humanly, and when we need them for food, kill them as humanly as possible.

here are other examples then: some primates other than humans are known to kill just for fun with no intent on eating or consuming the other animal. and males and females will kill eachother for just being around in their area in some species of animals. male lions will kill the cubs of the pride that they take over. we really are not the only species to do cruel things in the world. i agree that it was bad what the men did but they are just trying to survive. its hard to kill a creature humanely with a shovel and maybe they cant afford guns or such items to make the kill faster.

Note that I said SUPPOSED to be...

Yes, I know all that, but we are back to square one...we know better, or at least we should, that we should NOT treat an animal like that. And, yes, they could have easily killed that tegu fast with that shovel. Maybe not one hit, but they PLAYED with him. They should know better.

but theres nothing we can do about it. tey are there and we are here. some people dont have the sense of the value a life of any creature has. thats one thing i believe we both can agree on.

as for the rest, lets just not discuss it because we will always wind up back at square one because we have different point of views because we are two individual people. butwe can agree that it was sad to see what had happened.
