The cat can't break through the plexiglas so that shouldn't worry you.  When I have Gordo out, no other animals are in the same room.  It is just too great a risk.  I wouldn't expect the cat to accept your Tegu and vice versa.  If the cat was a part of your household first, it's behavior is natural.  I don't know how old or large your Tegu is but a little one is just prey for the cat, a meal if you will.

Recognize that and you will be fine.  Having said that, Gordo is pretty large and one of my cats got through an unsecured bathroom door while I was watching Gordo bathe.  Gordo got out of the tub and did his aggressive posture, mouth open, hissing and teeth bared.  It scared the hell out of both me and the cat which turned tail and ran.  After the cat was gone and the door closed, Gordo climbed into my lap and up onto my chest and forgot all about it.
