Where can I find info about the characteristics of different types of tegus...I read posts saying that some hybrids look more blue or more red,... . Is it just coloring, or are there head shapes or scale shapes that are unique for each type?

Blue tegus are characterized by a black teardrop around the eyes and a burnt nose (tip of the nose is black) and a high white color sometimes have a bluish hue and are born black and a goldish tan color not green. Extreme giants have a more pointed snout than black and whites are green and black when born have a smeared pokedot pattern on the midsection and a bright white head and cream color. Reds are easy they are red lol and tend to be girthier and more brutish looking with age I'm not a big fan of reds so I don't know much about them, black and whites are the most diverse, I've seen yellow spotted high white brownish all kinds of patterns my rule of thumb with with black and whites if it doesn't look like a red, a blue, an extreme, or a columbian its a black and white lol and I could care less about columbians don't dislike them just not interested I can spot one from a mile away and get pretty mad at pet stores when the don't label them as columbians and make it a point that they need to label them appropriately, I saw a store here trying to pass them on as argentines and charging 200$ per gu
Hybrids you look for characteristics from 2 different types :)

Like my eli is 75% blue 25% red, he's got a burnt nose and the teardrop like a blue but has a reddish hue and red/orange dots mixed into his pattern on his back :)

How about the attitudes and general personalities of each different Gu? Are some more friendly than others, or some more territorial or anything?

That's more opinion from whhat I understand, I've heard reds are a bit more skittish but that's ehh, each tegu has its own personality, columbians are know to be more aggressive, probably due to almost all being WC

Agreed. My big red boy Buzz is as tame as can be. He's a lazy one but still gets around. From personal experience with my reds, I find them to be extremely tame to where I allow my two females and Buzz to free roam for about 5 hours a day. Columbians are not my cup of tea, I've seen some nasty ones before and it really gets me when I see them being mislabeled. Even lllreptile has columbians listed as argentines, they've got the scientific name down for columbians, but still get the common name wrong. But then again, I've got some mean monitors in my possession.
