Cranky before hibernation

So between yesterday and today Chevy my extreme has charged and bitten my husband and my 8 year old son he has it their feet and toes and they are pretty bad bites. My husband's toe iss much worse than my husbands he works construction and had a real hard time walking today because it hurt (BIG baby) Now my husband says I need to rehome him. Is it possible he is extra hungry before hibernation and is charging toes and biting because he thinks it is prey. A few weeks ago he bit me in the face. It was not aggressive but seemed like he may have smelled food and sampled my face. I say this because right before he did it he was licking my neck very quickly. Other than that he has been skittish but never mouthy. I know people say the terrible ones how long does that last?

It is possible, perhaps he thought they were food, if it was an aggresive bite you would have seen some type of warning beforehand, the tegu dance or heavy breathing with their heads low to the ground, I'm very sorry to hear this happened, hopefully they all heal up nicely

Yeah, maybe that's what it is. Their first hibernation any mood swings are easy to brush off because they're still small. Their second one though, they're large and still growing. Maybe it's just a stressful time for them. By the 3rd hibernation they're not growing much anymore so maybe it's easier..

I wouldn't worry, just apologize profusely to them and buy them dinner. I really think the face was just food, my gu did that today. He smelled the fuzzie I just put in to thaw on my hand and started the fast tongue flick, so I moved my hand away a little and he stopped and relaxed. Also when you look at toes, really, they do look like pinkies, and they are right, there would've been an aggressive display, and probably a tail whip involved first. I would just chalk it up to going down soon and letting him be for a few days and feeding him in his enclosure if you need to. Good luck and don't worry.

Poor chevy takes forever to eat so I feed him out of the enclosure since he rubs it everywhere and flips it around. As long as he bites my husband and myself it is fine just not my son again. Everyone loves Chevy so we decided to chalk it up to age or pre hibernation hunger. He was in my son's video game room I left the door open and he crept out. Usually he only roams in the main part of the house where I am so no more forgetting to latch his enclosure.

Me too luckily everyone here really likes the tegus. I think he is going to enjoy human attention more than tonka. I pick him up and he lays against me and I rub his back and he closes his eyes. Funny how extreme tegus eyes look so fresh chevy definitely has a frisky look in his eyes.
