I purchased my hybrid/cross from a local pet store who carries exotics. Originally, she was a birthday gift to my good friend who is a paraplegic; he's one of those cave dwellers that plays mmo's all day and loves all things dark and devilish, so I figured it was a great match. Well, for the first year, I came over and fed and bathed her, cleaned her cage and handled her most. It became apparent that, although wheelz loved DRAZIL, he couldn't manage her needs, getting her in and out of the cage was difficult enough...
So the following year, while working at a state prison, I adopted a golden lab for him from our "pen pals" program. I had my inmate trainer teach him how to assist a handicap person, how to walk around his chair, etc... My friend was hospitalized for 3 months with staff, all the while I was taking care of "his" lizard. When he got out, Taylor, the lab, completed his training, and I brought him home. From day one, DRAZIL and Taylor didn't get along. Taylor was curious and DRAZIL was dangerous. She would Chase him across the house, trying to nip at his feet. She even bit a good friend of ours' foot, most likely bc it smelled like the dog. So, when I moved for my tactical response time, DRAZIL came to live with me.
She loved my new house, with grass, plants, and trees.... Things a little hard to come by in the desert. I for to spend more time with her. I handled her everyday until her advemtageous "ooo's wanna tear s*** up" phase was gone. She became a daily part of my life. I'd have morning coffee while she had morning banana's, she preyed on fuzzies while I bbq'd skinless... She even showered with me(after soap of course).
I moved back to the lake a little over a year ago... DRAZIL goes to the park with me, we go body surfing and swiming at the beach, and yeah, she still showers with me... I installed misters on the porch last summer which she seems to enjoy too. She even went out for Halloween with my gf and I this year
So, DRAZIL and I have been together now for almost three years, I got her at a yearling, so she's under four. I keep her well fed and she peaked close to 40" last fall. This year I Gunna be a big one, she's coming out of a rough shed, hasn't eaten much all winter, especially fruits, but she's getting healthier and starting to eat more. I am working in building her a full size enclosure that will acomidate her growth as well as a friend... She'll be going back to a bulk diet; 2-4 med rats and bananas every week. She is 1/4 red, 1/4 blue, and 1/2 high contrast black and white giant. I have been told if I allow her to eat well she will avg 66-72". I just want her to be fat and happy.
I will post video as I complete the terrarium project, when she goes to the beach, and for fun in the near future. In the meanwhile, I am looking to find DRAZIL a friend of similar traits... Any leads, give me a buzz
