Gator is about 19 inches long from tip to tip i give him pinkie mice from time to time but would like to know when a safe time would be to up the size of the prey item since pinkies seem awful small but i don't want to take a chance on the item being too big. he has finally realized im not out to do him harm and today marks the first day of closely supervised roaming

He is probably way beyond pinkie mice. He could probably take a rat pup.

It is hard to tell from the pics exactly how big he is, but I would guess so.

A good indicator of what size prey to feed is their head. Nothing bigger than the size or width of their head. Anything larger and they either won't eat it or make a mess tearing it apart.

You can always cut a larger rodent into bite-sized pieces. That's what i used to do until Kodo was large enough to swallow the rats whole.
