so i was at petsmart and the guy working there was askign me about my reptiles so i was telling him about my tegus and monitors... wlel the guy goes OFFF saying his buddy has a "7 foot teg that is viscious as hell and feeds of live rabbits".. first of all it took alo for me not to laugh in his face... the funniest part is.. the last time i was there he told me the exact same story but it wasnt a tegu it was a nile monitor LOL. then he says " i think 100% no matter wehat if u put any tegu and any monitor together the tegu will always win the fight" at this point me and my buddy who also keeps herps are trying SOOOO hard not to burst out laughing. then he asks whats the largest tegu i have ever had.. i tell him a little over 4 foot.. his reply " oh its still a hatchling" HAHHAHA thats where we broke out laughing the guy looked at us liek we were terrible people but it was hard not to laugh. just felt like sharing this lol

That's pretty funny. I bet he was talking about a monitor. Any lizard that's seven feet, eating rabbits, and mean had got to be a varanid or some sort. For the most part, people in the reptile sections of corporate pet stores don't know anything. My friend went in with her ball python once and the employees initially mistook it for a boa then a baby Burmese. The best part is that there were three young ball pythons on display; because hers was an adult they couldn't identify it. I'm lucky my local Petco and Petsmart actually have people who own reptiles who work there, so they're not as incompetent as most stores.

Next time you see him tell him your tegu had a growth spurt, is nearly eight feet, weighs close to seventy pounds, and is now eating an entire chicken every day. I bet he falls for it.

^^ LOL. im gonna bring in my water monitor one day and see if he thinks its a tegu.. or my blacktheoat or one of my other larger monitors. test him lol

Better idea, make up a fictional species of lizard. Or try to pass the monitors off as an iguana of some kind. Let us know the results.

i have countless hours of enjoyment from other peoples stupidity lol. i make up the stupidest crap and lies and the employees are always like, "oh yeah i had a buddy do that," or some other simple minded answer haha.
