Good Idea or Bad Idea

So Ive had Kronk for a week now and he was not afraid of me after a couple days enough to were i could put my hand in and he would not flip out. So I decided to see if I could take him out and he flipped out and got out of the cage(front opening custom cage). I finally got him and he calmed down and sat on my lap(probably because it was exhausted lol). Anyway I dont want to feed it in the cage. Should I just put the food outside the cage on my floor and let him come out on his own to eat or should I try and grab him and bring him out to eat or just keep feeding in his cage? I feel him seeing me feed him could help him trust me but i know he will also associate me with food so that is why I use the same bowl so it associates the bowl with food and not my hand. What do yall suggest?

he is seeing you as a predator constantly trying to get him so the constant reach and grab isn't going to help, I would suggest going into an empty room and let him free roam while you ignore him, the first few times he may be so interested in exploring he may ignore the food, but this can be a great bonding experience becaure he will learn you aren't a threat, . just let him be for a few mins a day and gradually increase it over time

I only tried to get him once. That is when he flipped out. So i cant get him because he flips out when i try and grab him but hes fine with me just putting my hand in. When im in my room should i just leave the door open then and let him come out himself?

It takes time, no matter what,.. time. Sometimes you may have to switch it up and try different things but keep at it. Being handled by or even in close proximity to something larger than them isn't natural and takes time to get use to. Forced handling works for some, not so much for others. You can try letting him come out on his own and see how he handles it. Just make sure you tegu proof the room and block of any area or opening it can fit into and you may not be able to get him out of.

There will be good days and bad ones maybe even weeks, with set backs here and there but keep at it.

Place a t-shirt in his enclosure that you've previously worn to get him aquainted to your scent. At first, just place your hand in the enclosure to allow him to realize you're not a threat. Eventually try to scoop him from under his body; reaching from above puts him on the defence by thinking that a predator is coming down to snatch him.
