i put this on my one forum but i just decided to make a new topic

ok guys as you all know this is my first reptile that hibernates well a couple of days ago i was sick and stayed home from school and i heard some rumbling noises in his cage were his hide box is and where i seen him start to hibernate well i open the cage and lift up the box and he just sitting there and im like ok so i turn on his heat lamp and put him on top of his box so he can warm up because i assumed that he was just cold from me not having the lamp on all this time so he walked around a bit got some water and little while after that he went back under and i didnt pay any attention to it so now hes just sitting there now and now all hes doing is sleeping and staying under his hide box is this normal

its normal for them to slow down or hybernate during the cold season. if your still giving him food you should keep the cage temperature high (just like the summer season, so he can properly digest the food. if he has not eaten in awile you can slowly reduce the temperature to room temp. 68-70 degrees. just be sure to avoid drastic temperature changes. you should change the temp. over at least a few days time. ive been keeping mine in the basement since late september. she stays in a larhe trash can with cypress mulch no heat and no light. temps have been 58-70 degress. last year she hybernated the same way from october until april. if you keep you tegu this cool you should offer a little water but no food until the spring.

My tegus have stopped eating. I offered them some food today but didnt want it. One of my females was burried and my male and my other female were up. The enclosure that they are in is 8x4x4 and i have a 150 watt light on them and lights go on at 8 in the morning and go out at 6 pm. Im sure as the weeks go buy they should start to go down for the season.

sounds good to me. when the summer returns you might consider going with 12 hours of light.
