hungry little tegu

ok so my new little tegu is a hungry little guy, how hungry do you ask? well i gave him a pinky that was pretty big and he greedily wolfed it down and i figured that would have kept him fed for a while but no an hour later he wanted more so he pounded down 4 criks and i think 3 meal worms. anyhow i want to get him some roaches i know they are suposed to be good. now my question is since i see hes gonna grow fast, hes already shedding,what size should i start him off on and since they seem to come alot for a little should i stick to a small size or should i get a combination of small medium and large knowing hes gonna grow into a larger food item soon ?

From my expirence with mine, I gave him one that was a little to big when he was younger and he struggled with it for a long time( it took him like an hr and then i cut it in half so he could swallow it).I would stick to smaller ones because they have tough shells that can be hard to break if the roach is to big. Until my guy got big enough to eat large roaches no problem I would just give him a few small ones at a time.

A rule of thumb for whole prey,.. nothing larger than the size of their head. Anything smaller and they should be fine with taking whole, larger and it should be cut up or they'll try and tear it apart and make a mess.

Just their head, not the jowls or cheeks for females and younger tegus.

get a combo of sizes. start your own colony and save tons on food cost while its still small' I have so many roaches i want to get an emperor scorpion
