Hi All --
I've been following the forum since August, and I think it's high time I introduce myself to the community. The questions and answers you have posted here have been incredibly helpful; you have all unwittingly contributed to my education in tegu husbandry. For that, I thank you!
I grew up in a suburb of Boston, MA, and kept reptiles throughout my childhood and adolescence. When I went off to college, I knew that coursework and football would keep me too busy to properly care for my animals, so I found them all good homes and packed my bag for mid-coast Maine. Four years of college, two years of teaching high school English, and two years (and counting) of graduate school later, I decided it was time to welcome reptiles back to my life.
What better place to start than with an Argentine tegu--and one from the best stock around? With my wonderful fiancee's blessing, I acquired one of Bobby's 2010 Extremes. Javier (Javi for short) is about three months old and two feet in total length. What an amazing lizard! S/he's got more personality in his/her long middle toe than all of my old lizards exhibited in their lifetimes. We've had a blast getting to know him.
I hope to post pics once I figure out how to do so; for now, Javi can be seen in my avatar, warming his ample belly on my equally capacious noggin.
My apologies for the lengthy post, and my hearty thanks once more for all your help.
Cheers,
David
