Lazy Gu and Impaction

Hello guys !

I was wondering if some of you have Gu that only come out a couple of hours a day to bask and eat and then go back in their hide the rest of the day ? I have had my Colombian about 2 weeks now and that has been his schedule everyday. Just wondering if maybe he is trying to get used to his sorroundings or if maybe he will just do this forever. Basking area temp is 100-110 and humidity is from 50-75 I try to keep it around 70 though when I'm around to controller it.

Also I still feed my Gu in his enclosure because he is still kinda skiddish and backs up away from my hand. I no longer want to keep forcing to pet him so now I will let him come to me(which I hope happens someday) so I feed him in his enclosure . I am afraid of Impaction though. I feed on a little dish but he loves to lift up his good and wiggle it around and sometimes it gets in his substrate. Today he was battling swallowing a piece of chicken while trying to get the cypress mulch from his mouth. It looked annoying but he also worked it out pretty easy. I am worried about him getting Impaction tho. Any tips ? Maybe I have to make a "safe" area in his cage for him to eat ? Or is he fine ?
