In this article Bert Langerwerf said he occasionally feeds his tegus bread. http://www.reptilechannel.com/reptile-magazines/reptiles-magazine/june-2008/totally-tegus.aspx

What do you think of the occasional piece of bread for your tegu? My tegu has had a piece of pizza bread before and had no problem. I gave it to him because I was so busy that I forgot to go tegu grocery shopping that day, and I had pizza leftover and read that some people had fed their tegu bread before so I figured well once won't hurt! He loved it and had no problems whatsoever. I have only done it once and it didn't seem to be a big deal.

As long as it doesn't become a habit shouldn't be a problem. They are scavengers and some table scraps can be a treat. Dino actually hissed, tripoded and came at me for some more smoked sausage once after I gave him a piece. With that reaction it was his first and last time having it.

Bosco gets some turkey and mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas. Like Bubblz said, as long as its a treat but not all the time.
