Salmonella is a risk with any uncooked or undercooked poultry. The issue with this salmonella strain, is that it's antibiotic resistant. The people who were sickened likely undercooked their meat. A salmonella strain that was resistant to cooking, would have had more deaths by now. My tegu's vet, told me that any food we feed our animals should be cooked, or else we risk our animals carrying Salmonella. (they don't seem to usually have any effects from it, they just carry it, and it can be passed around from their feces from what I've heard, please correct me if I'm wrong, and provide your source)
