Animals that have evolved eatign raw meat (all carnivores except humans) are designed to be very resistent to Salmonella. So our Tegus are not oging to be harmed in any way if they eat meat that is teaming with Salmonella. Also, as soon as the Salmonella enters their body their body will begin destroying it. Though bare in mind it will not destroy it instantly.

The risk is that the Tegu could possibly transmit Salmonella to us after he gets it and before his body destroys it. To guard against this we should always be washing our hands thoroughly after handling our Tegu, especially if we come in contact with his mouth or waste. Also, we shouldn't be kissing our Tegu on the mouth for this reason.

My guess is that most cases when people get Salmonella, it takes place during food preperation. Either using the same utensils on raw meat as used on cooked meat, or putting their hands to their face after handling raw meat and before thoroughly washing.
