How can I tame my tegu? I got him last Thursday and whenever he is picked up he begins the tail whipping. And whenever I try to pet him outside of the cage he speeds away. How can I make him trust me. How can I tame him?

Hello. There is an entire section on the main page of this forum entitled taming. Tons of info there to help you. The first post by Varnyard called "taming the beast" helped me immensely. Just remember to be patient with him. Best of luck!

Tommy is correct. Go to Taming the Beast and read not only Varnyards post but all the stories by other people. A couple of things to remember;
Don't be impatient it will take a couple of months of daily handling. Each Tegu is different in terms of docility. I have three, all of who, have different personalities. Also, they will have off days where they will be less receptive to handling.
If it is very young, it will take a while to build trust.
