I have seen a lot of people talking about how you will lose their trust every time you pick up their hide. I was wondering if they get conditioned to it over time? I am a new tegu owner, my little guy is still young. This site has been a great reference so I though I would join the conversation. Thank you!

This forum is dead but my tegu is completely used to it and where as she used to puff up and get upset now she loves it and climbs into my hand as long as your tegu isn't brumating which it shouldn't be this time of year I say go for it . That being said I also hand feed mine and she 100% knows the difference between my fingers and food I have never been bit
But I am prepared to deal with the consequences if I am

Most forums are "dead" now. Blame Facebook. Facebook has turned out to be both awesome and not so much. All my groups died. No one and I mean no one posts on the yahoo or email groups. Like, ever. Boards like this are so, so slow. Facebook has turned out to be a place where you can "do it all". I mean you can join groups, stay with just friends, or be with the world. You can share any type of media and you can do it all "live". In one place. The bad thing? Well cool and needed places have either gone under or are slow. I miss them so bad. But Facebook is time consuming. You see it is also used for work and school now!!! So, now you are really tied to it ya know? Only so much time in the day I guess.

Facebook has taken the place of forums because of the instant response time, this is true.

I don't like to do it...but I do pick up hides...true confessions. Sometimes I just need to get to the tegu. It hasn't upset our relationship. It is all about positive association. Sometimes i need to pick up the hide to check on a baby and feed. That seems to be OK. If I pick up the hide and do something negative then that would be a different story.
