sounds like a good idea, but you probably would need a heat pad- not sure about that though, correct me if i am wrong?
i think that your tegu would appreciate the fresh air and sunshine. what are the dimensions you are planning to build?
in my opinion, it looks like some kind of box turtle. have to check what kind to be sure though. very pretty tort though!
(i live in tn too and i find box turtles in the woods behind our house- they are fun to watch!)
p.s.
it may just be a trust thing. just let him get used to you, and do not force him into doing something that he is uncomfortable doing. it mat take some time, but you will be very happy a few years down the road. later on, he may be feeding in a separate bin, (which i would recommend anyways)...
you could just feed in its enclosure, (until he gets used to you), but do not take it out of the hide. oh, and make sure that there is nothing that he/she can ingest while feeding. good luck!!!:)
ok, well if you just got the tegu, give it time to adjust to its environment. i would say wait for about a week until you start changing its feeding schedule, (but it should not matter where it is fed) i dont think that it matters, they are going to eat no matter what, but i do think that it is...
unless you plan on breeding them, i advise you to house separately. you can try to house together, but sometimes they can become territorial. just make sure that you do not purchase two males- that could turn out nasty!! if you decide to house together, just keep a close eye on them and watch...
