one more question about the lights....how far should light be from actual basking spot? My basking light sits on top of a screen top approx 12-18" away from basking rock if this distance is good, what wattage would you all suggest?

LOL .... I have found that mine will do the tail thing if I come up on him too fast...it must be a defensive thing they do in the wild. He has never swatted me though.

My tegu will not eat mice from feeding tongs :bang When he will eat a mouse he likes to get it from his food dish. I was trying to feed from tongs(wiggle and shake alittle) to simulate a live critter, he snubs it. Anyone else have a picky tegu?
Mr Tegu.....Check this out...This is my baby's tummy. He has had this color tummy since we got him last Sept. It has turned to this darker color over time. Is he a pure breed b&w? or could he be a mix?
So I guess I shouldn't be too worried then that he is not eating much... About what time of the year do they start coming out of brumation? Or does it depend on the weather?
My tegu has been in brumation for a couple months...Some days we see him more than others. He only eats every 3 days or so, and when he eats it is very little. His basking temps are right on , proper lighting and so on, but still not much activity from him. I do bathe him daily to keep him...

BTW....That red/orange color on his underside, is that due to being a juvenile? I have noticed other tegs on here that don't have that color, but maybe they are adults.
